SEA ISLE CITY – City council approved the introduction of an ordinance at its meeting Oct. 11 that would adopt a city-wide dune line. The line is established by the Army Corps of Engineers (ACE).
Per solicitor Paul Baldini, the setback will go from 10 feet to six feet on all city property. It will not decrease on private property.
Baldini said the ordinance will reduce the number of applications for variances from the zoning board. ACE re-engineered the dune line five years ago.
Now, per municipal consistency guidelines, the city will implement a uniform city-wide dune line from 1st Street to the curb at 93rd Street.
Private surveyors will have access to city maps as well as ACE’s digital maps. The city’s planning board will review the ordinance to ensure consistency with the municipal master plan. The second hearing and opportunity for public comment will be held at the Nov. 22 council meeting.
