Resident: Educate Homeowners about Fire Risks

By Camille Sailer

SEA ISLE CITY – During public comment at the Nov. 12 Sea Isle City Council meeting, a resident took council members and city administration to task for not doing more to prevent the number of residential fires that have occurred in the municipality over the last 18 months.
“My own house almost burned down, and it was all because of poor connections that Atlantic City Electric should be fixing. This is an easy-to-solve problem, and rather than saying these fires are ‘unsolvable,’ we should all be working to prevent them.
“In a couple of weeks, the holidays begin and second homeowners will be here firing up their ovens, heaters, and other electrical appliances. My husband and I have written numerous times to the city, and tried to engage the electric company, so that homeowners are educated about the risks. You don’t see these fires happening in Ocean City, Wildwood, or elsewhere, so Sea Isle really needs to get proactive.”
Neither council nor city administration immediately responded.
