COURT HOUSE – Sen. Robert “Bob” Andrzejczak, Assemblyman Bruce Land and Assemblyman Matt Milam (all D-1st) applauded a decision by Gov. Murphy May 7 to not divert $33 million from the Firefighters Relief Fund.
According to a release Andrzejczak stated, “We are grateful that Gov. Murphy heeded our call and the call of first responders across the State of New Jersey, to not use funds meant for firefighters and their families during times of need in order to plug a hole in the State budget.”
Firefighters and first responders from every county of the state joined Andrzejczak, Land and Milam in calling for the governor to reverse course when the news broke of a hidden line item in this year’s proposed budget.
“This shows the power of grassroots organization and how invested our local communities are in their local fire departments,” stated Land.
“Our firefighters and first responders are true American heroes, who risk their lives by running into burning buildings while everyone else is running out. This fund is sacrosanct and must be there for future generations of firefighters and their families,” stated Milam.
The legislators vowed to remain vigilant in their fight to ensure that these funds are protected, not only this year, but in all future budgets.
They called upon the governor and legislative leaders from around the state to unite to ensure that these funds were put back, and they were heartened to learn that so many from around the state joined them in their efforts.
