CAPE MAY – Cape May City Council heard from Jules Rauch July 23. He spoke as a representative of the Cape May Taxpayers Association, concerning plans for a public safety building.
The projected facility would house the city’s fire and police departments in a combined complex. Plans call for it to be located on the site of the firehouse.
Rauch asserted there were “serious differing opinions” on the proposed location and the need to combine the departments into a public safety complex.
He questioned whether the city had taken full account of its mutual aid agreement with West Cape May, the emergence of a regional central dispatch facility at the Cape May County Airport, and “the process of considering a large debt on top of our existing debt.”
The public will get a fresh look at the conceptual plans for the building and the proposed site at a special meeting of council Aug. 13 at 4 p.m. The city’s architectural firm, USA Architects, will make a presentation on the building plans.
