Cape May County Expands and Upgrades Courts and Moves Surrogate Office
COURT HOUSE – The formal ribboncutting for the newly renovated third floor of the Cape May County Superior Courthouse is scheduled for May 3 at noon, 9 N. Main St. in Court House.
According to a release, there will be a tour of the third floor after the ceremony.  This event coincides with National Law Day and marks positive changes for Judiciary Services in the county. The public is invited.
The Cape May County Surrogate’s Office will be housed on the third floor and will give it needed space.  The space that is being vacated will allow more space for the County Prosecutor’s Office.
The Sheriff will have an office on the third floor providing a better presence for him and his officers assigned to the courts.
The new space will also provide a new courtroom, meeting a critical need for ongoing court functions.
Criminal Case Management will also be moved to the third floor allowing for much-needed space for performance of their duties.
The courthouse, built in 1927, has had the first and second floors renovated with upgrades over the past several years.  Recent changes such as bail reform and the handling of drug-related cases have created a demand to provide more courtrooms and offices.
Freeholders decided to take a look at the top floor of the building to determine a cost effective plan to provide necessary space and meet the growing mandates.
The completion of the third floor provides an effective and efficient configuration of space that will improve the operation of the court system.
