COURT HOUSE – Graduation for the 29th Basic Course for Police Officers will take place Wednesday, Jan. 27, at 4 p.m. at Middle Township Performing Arts Center, 212 Bayberry Lane.
Freeholder Vice Directeor Ralph Sheets Jr., will address the class along with keynote speaker U.S. Marshal James Plousis.
Forty-two police officers from twelve departments in New Jersey and Alternate Route Trainees will graduate after completing a 22 week training program at the Cape May County Police Academy. The Academy is the only residential based training center in the state of New Jersey for municipal recruit training.
The class started with a physical fitness average of 77.2 % and finished with an average of 95.1%. The body fat percentage dropped from 16.5% to 9.8%. Also, they lost a total of 59.5 inches from their waists and 111 pounds. The Class final academic average was 92.35% and their firearm average was 94.5%. The class president is Ptl. Richard Fulham of the Middletown Township Police Department who was elected by members of the class. The class motto is, “The courageous began, the weak died along the way and the strong survived.”
Individual Awards are as follows:
High Academic Award: Recruit James Parent an Alternate Route Candidate who had a final academic average of 97.09%
Vehicle Operations Award: Michael Pastore, Cape May County Sheriff’s Department, 25.92 seconds
Physical Fitness Award: Recruit Joseph Switzer, Alternate Route, 99 percent
Firearms Award: Recruit Christian Magazzu, Alternate Route, 100 percent
Directors Award – Overall Class Ranking No. 1: Recruit Michael Pastore, Cape May County Sheriff’s Department
