Police Arrest Avalon Home Burglar

AVALON — An Avalon press release states charges have been filed against one suspect in connection with a home burglary that occurred Sept. 7. Avalon Police were contacted at 2:10 a.m. on Sept. 7 about a home burglary that took place at a residence on the 200 block of 7th Street.
When police arrived, they found the home was burglarized and accessed through a bathroom window.
No one was at the home during the burglary and there were no injuries.
Items removed from the home include currency, electronics and jewelry.
Police executed a search warrant on Sept. 11 at a nearby home in the same neighborhood.
Police interviewed Jeffrey L. Hardy, 48, of Morgantown, Pa. A search warrant was executed at the house and police were able to recover a portion of the jewelry and a portion of the currency that were stolen from the victims’ home.
Hardy was charged with Possession of Stolen Property and Hindering Apprehension. Hardy also had outstanding warrants from other communities totaling $5,400. Hardy was taken to the Cape May County Jail on $5,400 cash bail.
Avalon Police obtained some information during the execution of the warrant that will lead to additional charges being filed against additional suspects.
Det. Sgt. Ben Gery is investigating the case.
