WILDWOOD – Beachgoers who visit this city’s world-famous beach will be able to park on the sand now that Wildwood’s on-beach parking lot will officially open Memorial Day Weekend.
“The beach parking lot has been in the works for over a year,” stated Commissioner Pete Byron in a release. “The winter inclement weather often kept work at a standstill but the lot is finally ready to go and will be opened for the 2018 season.”
According to Byron, the owner of a four-wheel drive will be able to park on the sand at the new attended lot at Baker Avenue and the beach for $10 a day. Special event parking will cost $20. Parking on the sand is limited to four-wheel-drive vehicles only.
Parking on the beach has been a reality for several New Jersey shore towns for years, Byron said. “Brigantine started parking on the beach in 2007,” stated Byron. “And in 2014 they made more than $600,000. That’s a huge amount of money.
“For Wildwood taxpayers $600,000 equals approximately 4 cents in tax savings per $100 of assessed value.” The commissioner added that due to Wildwood’s beach size, it could accommodate more cars than other beaches, thereby creating an even larger tax savings for property owners.
“We have a world-class beach,” stated Byron. “And we continue to make strides in offering amenities that not only offer beachgoers a world-class experience, but will produce new sources of substantial, sustainable income to help offset property owners’ taxes. We remain focused on not only making our beach fun but also making it profitable for our taxpayers.”
