By Herald Staff

OCEAN CITY — In a joint statement issued Tuesday, March 30 by the Ocean City Republican Executive Committee and the leadership of the Ocean City Republican Club, both long time and well respected Ocean City political organizations stepped up to express support for Ocean City GOP Leader John McCann and incumbent GOP Freeholder Ralph Bakley in the upcoming June 8 Primary.
“We are pleased to announce our unwavering support of both of John McCann and Ralph Bakely for the office of Freeholder,” said Ocean City Republican Club President Maryann Nespoli. “John McCann and I have worked very closely to help build the Republican Organization in Ocean City,” said Nespoli. “I can say from personal experience that John McCann does what is best for Ocean City, the county and the Republican Party,” she said.
“The Cape May County Freeholder Board has been a consistent friend to Ocean City taxpayers and I am looking forward to John McCann joining Ralph Bakley on the Freeholder Board” said Ocean City Alternate GOP Leader Peter Trofa. “John McCann has worked long and hard to bring this seat back to Ocean City and we must do everything possible to help him succeed.” said Trofa.
Trofa continued. “Those who are running in opposition to the official endorsed candidates of the Cape May County Regular Republican Organization are hurting Ocean City and the Republican Party,” he said. Sheppard did not ask for their endorsement in time for consideration with the other candidates.”
Congressman Frank LoBiondo , Freeholder Ralph Bakley, John McCann and Cape May County Clerk Rita Marie Fulginiti all requested and received the support of the Cape May County Republican Organization. Gerald Thorton also requested the endorsement but was beaten by Bakely and McCann by a majority vote reported on March 15 by the municipal Republican leaders.
