NORTH WILDWOOD — Over the past two weekends, North Wildwood Police have conducted water patrols with assistance from the North Wildwood Fire Department and the New Jersey State Police Marine Unit.
Activity to Date:
Fifteen stops of personal watercraft have been made (thirteen warnings/two summons), two service calls (assisted by removing a line out of propulsion unit of a disabled personal watercraft; assisted a disabled watercraft operator get to a safe location).
A water rescue of a person swimming in the channel who was having problems getting back to shore (24-year-old female from Philadelphia, PA) was performed. North Wildwood Fire Department evaluated the swimmer on the boat and there was no cause for further action.
Two calls received (a complaint of threats on Champagne Island; an accident on the water involving a personal watercraft) New Jersey State Police were advised on both incidents and were turned over to be handled by them.
The goal of the water patrols remains the same; to provide a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for boaters and swimmers alike and for compliance of boating laws. Patrols will continue through the end of summer.
