OCEAN CITY – Ocean City continues to resist the building of high-voltage transmission lines under city streets for the support of the Ocean Wind I offshore wind farm.
After the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) ruled in favor of the Ocean Wind LLC preferred transmission route, Ocean City filed an appeal with the state Appellate Court.
Ocean Wind I applied for street opening permits to begin testing related to its eventual construction of the transmission route. The city has not issued the permits, calling the action premature until the matter of the appeal is decided by the court.
Ocean Wind has sued the city, seeking to have the courts force the issuance of the permits.
Ocean City took the step of requesting that the NJBPU stay its order of Sept. 28, 2022, approving the preferred route.
NJBPU considered Ocean City’s request for a stay in executive session May 24. The board returned to the public meeting and unanimously voted to deny Ocean City’s request.
