New Senator Votes Against $9.5 Million for Family Planning Services

Sen. Michael Testa (R-1st)

By Press Release

TRENTON – Sen. Michael Testa (R-1st) voted against spending $9.5 million for family planning services in one of his first votes after being sworn into office Dec. 5.

According to a release, “As the father of three young children, I’m proudly pro-life and don’t believe our tax dollars should be used to support organizations whose primary focus is providing abortions,” stated Testa.

“Presumably Planned Parenthood would be one of the largest recipients of this funding. While Planned Parenthood doesn’t have any locations in our district, we do have FQHCs that serve our residents, which would not be impacted by this legislation.”

Testa voted “no” on S-4103 in the Senate Budget & Appropriations Committee. The legislation makes an FY 2020 supplemental appropriation of $9.5 million to the New Jersey Department of Health to fund providers of family planning services across the state.”

He noted that the appropriation represents another example of Democrats’ misguided fiscal priorities.

“From a larger fiscal perspective, with Gov. Murphy raising spending by billions and demanding massive tax increases year after year, I don’t believe this is something we can afford,” added Testa. “Along with their misguided sanctuary state policies, spending millions on abortion providers is another example of the misguided priorities of Trenton Democrats.”
