NORTH WILDWOOD – The City of North Wildwood is taking more time to consider how to best regulate the parking of recreational trailers and vehicles on the streets.
Ordinance 1901 was introduced to prohibit the overnight parking of such trailers and RVs on North Wildwood streets. The ordinance came up for second reading and public hearing May 16, but was tabled to take more time to craft the ordinance.
Mayor Patrick Rosenello said the intent of the ordinance was to prevent people from sleeping overnight in RV trailers or vehicles and to keep them from running electrical cords over sidewalks and rights of way.
In April, Rosenello said the city received communication from residents who said an outright ban would prohibit them from parking overnight to load or unload their RV.
Rosenello said at the April 18 meeting that was not the intention of the ordinance and asked City Solicitor Mike Donohue to give an opinion. Donohue said at that meeting that he would have to look into the matter to make sure that accommodating residents was constitutional.
Rosenello said the city would need to construct the ordinance in a manner that allowed residents fair use of the street in front of their houses while preventing people from camping or creating hazards in the streets.
Rosenello asked Kyle Rutherford, confidential assistant to the mayor, to schedule a group appointment for anyone who would like to discuss the ordinance.
