Middle Reorganizes, Lockwood Reappointed Mayor

By Deborah McGuire

COURT HOUSE – It was business as usual after Middle Township Committee’s Jan. 3 reorganization meeting. Newly sworn in for his new three-year term as a Committeeman, Daniel Lockwood was unanimously returned to his seat as the township’s mayor for 2013. Deputy Mayor Timothy Donohue also returned to his position.
With his wife Sylvia watching and 11-year-old daughter Danielle holding the Bible, Lockwood was sworn into office by former Sen. James Cafiero.
“This first term, three years, I can’t believe how fast it went and I can’t believe sometimes how slow it went,” Lockwood told the audience of family, friends and colleagues.
He said while he was looking forward to things getting slightly easier, he said he was cognizant of the challenges ahead.
“We have a great team here,” he said noting Committee members Donohue and Susan D’Lanzo. “I appreciate Sue and Tim’s hard work on many different issues. We seem to come together and I think we’ve done a decent job of trying to come up with the best decision, although we’ve had healthy debates and minor disagreements on issues.”
Lockwood was returned to his seat on Committee this past November by the narrow margin of 114 votes.
“I look forward to working hard for the people who had faith in me and reelected me, but I’m also reaching out to those in the Township that also thought things could be done a little bit differently,” Lockwood said. “I acknowledge that they’re out there and I’m going to do my best to try to keep all minds, all parties and all hearts in mind here has we make decisions to go forward.”
Donohue thanked the public for its support of the mayor in reelecting him and for the public’s confidence in the changes brought to the township during the past year that were validated by the mayor’s reelection.
“We face a lot of challenges and that will never change,” said the deputy mayor. “But I think we’ve shown a good faith effort. The three of us all work together in a non-partisan way to try and face those challenges.”
