COURT HOUSE – Middle Township Committee May 15 ratified a Memorandum of Understanding between the township and Acenda Inc. in connection with the Arrive Together program.
The program, a pilot project within Cape May County, supports law enforcement responders with trained mental health professionals on certain behavioral health police calls. Acenda is a mental health service provider.
The program is funded with a state grant and was announced last month by Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland. Sutherland said the intention would be to expand the program to other county law enforcement agencies following evaluation of the pilot project. The pilot involves both the Middle Township and Lower Township police departments.
Acenda is authorized by the state to provide mental health screening services under the state’s Screening and Screening Outreach Program. The overall goal is to improve the outcomes when law enforcement is responding to emergency behavioral health calls.
