COURT HOUSE – Soon after the state’s animal cruelty enforcement law was signed into law in January 2018, Middle Township appointed and trained its first municipal humane law enforcement officer. Detective Jason Sweitzer serves in this role. The municipality moved oversight of animal control to the police department.
Middle Township Committee approved the appointment of Officer Tom Flounders as an alternate municipal humane law enforcement officer, which added a trained and certified resource to the task in the county’s largest municipality July 15. Police Chief Christopher Leusner, underscoring the department’s commitment to enforcing the state’s animal cruelty laws, thanked the governing body for its support.
