ERMA – The Lower Township Police Department recently received donations for Narcan (naloxone) from The CURE ministry of The Lighthouse Church in Burleigh and the Greg DiAntonio Memorial Foundation of Wildwood.
According to a release, the Lower Township Police Department applauds the contributions of these organizations. It has been proven that if Narcan is administered within the first few minutes of an opioid overdose, a life can be saved.
Narcan does not have adverse effects and is not addictive, it is simply a life-saving drug when given properly.
Narcan, also referred to as naloxone, has been in use in the U.S. since the early 1970s. It may be administered to an unconscious patient either through injection or by spraying the drug into the patient’s nose.
When properly administered, it can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose in minutes. Opioids include prescription painkillers such as hydrocodone, oxycodone, morphine, codeine, and fentanyl, as well as illegal drugs such as heroin.
The abuse of these drugs has become a growing national epidemic, taking the lives of thousands of people each year and the Department is very grateful for the donation that will help save lives.
