ERMA – The Lower Township Police Department, along with many other agencies across the county, is participating in “No-Shave November.”
According to a release, one of the goals of “No-Shave November” is to raise cancer awareness by embracing hair (which many cancer patients lose), and letting it grow wild and free.
Another goal is to use the money typically spent on shaving and grooming, to educate about cancer prevention, save lives and aid those fighting the battle.
All proceeds of this event will be donated to Jennifer Higginbottom, 34, a mother, wife, sister, daughter, and friend to those who know her.
Higginbottom lives in the area with her husband Mark, a Middle Township Police sergeant, and their two young children.
She was diagnosed in July of this year with breast cancer, underwent extensive 10-hour surgery, and has 14-16 weeks of chemotherapy.
She will then require two or three additional surgeries. She has been out of work and will remain so, as she continues treatments and is not receiving wages.
The family has been devastated with this news compounded by the costs of traveling, medical treatments, chemotherapy, insurance co-pays, gas, tolls, etc., which has created an enormous burden on the family.
This initiative will assist the Higginbottom family through this hardship.
The public should not be shocked when they see one of the Lower Township police officers sporting a beard, goatee or longer than usual hair length; it’s all for a great cause.
Those who would like to donate, the department will also be collecting donations through Nov. 30th, 2019.
All money collected will go directly to the Higginbottom family.
Checks can be made out to the Cape May County (CMC) Chiefs of Police Association with “No-Shave Higginbottom” in the memo.
These donations can be dropped off or mailed to the Lower Township Police Department,405 Breakwater Road, Erma, NJ 08204.
