Local Gal Has The Best Beach Tag in Avalon

By Press Release

AVALON – Avalon Mayor Martin L. Pagliughi recently honored Avalon resident Cara Heenan for coming up with the winning design for the 2011 beach tags that will be sold in Avalon. Heenan is a seventh grader at the Avalon Elementary School. Her artwork was picked from 54 submissions.
“I’m very proud of Cara’s design for the 2011 beach tags,” Pagliughi said. “This is a fun way to have our local students involved in community projects, and I congratulate Cara and her parents, Sue and Brian Heenan, on this accomplishment.”
This is the 13th consecutive year that the borough and the school have sponsored the Avalon Beach Tag Art Contest. Pagliughi attended a special awards ceremony at the school on Wed., Dec. 22 and presented Cara with a commemorative plaque and the very first beach tag (number 000001) of the 2011 season.
The 2011 beach tags will go on sale starting weekends on April 16 at the beach tag booth located next to the Avalon Community Hall, 30th Street and the beach. Tags will be required for all beachgoers age 12 and older between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. from May 28 through Sept. 5. Beach tags may be purchased daily from May 1 through Sept. 5 at the booth or beginning the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend from beach tag inspectors. Seasonal beach tags purchased on or before May 31 will cost $21; tags purchased after that date will cost $26. Weekly beach tags cost $12 and daily tags $6. Reciprocity of beach tags is observed between Avalon and Stone Harbor.
