LoBiondo Gets Committee Assignments for 111th Congress

By Herald Staff

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep Frank A. LoBiondo (R-2nd) on Thursday, Jan. 15 received his committee and subcommittee assignments for the 111th Congress. As requested, LoBiondo will remain on the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee and the House Armed Services Committee, though subcommittee assignments and leadership responsibilities have expanded to meet the diverse needs of the Second District.
LoBiondo is the only member from South Jersey serving on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, according to a release.
LoBiondo’s subcommittee assignments are:
• Subcommittee on the Coast Guard & Maritime Transportation – Having met the required two-year hiatus from leading the same committee or subcommittee for more than six years, LoBiondo was again selected to be the top Republican of this subcommittee which has jurisdiction over policies and issues pertaining to the U.S. Coast Guard, maritime transportation safety and security policies. LoBiondo was previously Chair of the Subcommittee from 2001 through 2006 until he was term-limited out of his chairmanship. He has always remained on the subcommittee due to the overwhelming Coast Guard presence in South Jersey.
• Subcommittee on Aviation – The subcommittee has jurisdiction over civil aviation policy, labor issues, equipment and security, including the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). LoBiondo retained his seat on the subcommittee due to the explicit ties to the 2nd District, including the FAA Tech Center, TSA Security Lab, Federal Air Marshal training facility, and the Atlantic City International Airport. LoBiondo has been a member of the subcommittee since 1997.
• Subcommittee on Water Resources and the Environment – The subcommittee has jurisdiction over beach replenishment and water resource programs operated by the Army Corps of Engineers; the Clean Water Act under the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA); Superfund and brownfield revitalization; and environmental issues pertaining to the nation’s waterways. LoBiondo remains on this subcommittee to concentrate on issues critical to the 2nd District, which is bordered by the Delaware River, the Delaware Bay, and the Atlantic Ocean.
• LoBiondo’s subcommittee assignments on the House Armed Services Committee are as follows:
• Subcommittee on Air & Land Forces – The subcommittee has jurisdiction over programs and policies of the U.S. Army and Air Force in addition to National Guard and Reserve units and equipment across the country. LoBiondo has been a member of the subcommittee since 2003, and retained his membership due to the jurisdiction over issues pertaining to the 177th Fighter Wing in Atlantic County.
• Subcommittee on Readiness – The subcommittee has jurisdiction over military readiness (training, logistics, maintenance), military construction, civilian personnel policies, environmental issues relating to defense property/sites, military contracting, and the Base Realignment & Closure Committee (BRAC). LoBiondo retained this subcommittee assignment to ensure the 177th Fighter Wing has the necessary facilities to complete its missions.
• Subcommittee on Terrorism, Unconventional Threats & Capabilities – The subcommittee has jurisdiction over the Defense Department’s counter-proliferation and counter-terrorism programs, Special Operations Forces, force protection policy, homeland defense and consequence management programs. LoBiondo is rejoining this subcommittee due to South Jersey’s vital role in homeland security.
