AVALON – Second homeowners and others unable to attend in-person Avalon Borough Council meetings will still be able to participate on Zoom.
At its work session Dec. 14, the council discussed an upcoming resolution that will authorize a 2023 professional services contract with Just Right TV, LLC for the livestreaming services.
Avalon had offered livestream of council meetings in 2022 but frequently made notice to the public that the remote video access to meetings was being done on a trial basis. The contract discussion represents a decision to move past the trial period and commit to continuation of livestream remote access.
Avalon’s protocol allows for more than just video of the meetings. Residents can fully participate in public comment via the Zoom format. Following the end of Covid restrictions, several county municipalities have either stopped real-time video access to governing body meetings or provided such access but disallowed remote participation in public comment.
Several Avalon residents have advocated extending the use of livestream technology to the borough’s Planning and Zoning Board meetings, but thus far that board has displayed no interest.
