Jersey’s 50th Brigade Departs for Iraq

By Herald Staff

FORT DIX — Gov. Jon Corzine and New Jersey State Adjutant Major General Glenn Rieth participated in the Farewell Salute to the 50th Infantry Brigade Combat Team at Fort Dix in Wrightstown on June 14.
New Jersey National Guard will deploy 2,800 men and women to Iraq.
Corzine spoke to the soldiers and said, “We will stand firmly with you now and we will stand firmly behind you when you are in Iraq. There is not a New Jerseyan that does not pray for you.”
The troops will report for training at Fort Bliss, Texas, before deploying to Iraq to serve their terms. The brigade’s main mission in Iraq will be to run the U.S. military’s detention centers for suspected insurgents.
