CREST HAVEN – Freeholders reappointed Bob Humphries of Middle Township to the County Planning Board at the Feb. 28 meeting. His term will continue until Feb. 10, 2020.
At the same meeting, the board reappointed Sue Ann Wheeler of Goshen as a member of the County Agricultural Development Board. Her term is for four years.
A contract was awarded to Agate Construction Co. of Ocean View for $734,165 for “priority structural repairs” to the Great Channel (96th Street) Bridge from Middle Township to Stone Harbor. County Engineer Dale Foster told the board there were four bidders for the work. Their bids ranged from Agate’s low of $734,165 to over $2 million.
“How does that happen?” asked Freeholder Director Gerald Thornton.
Foster said the engineer’s estimate for the work was $1 million. “It depends on how they approach the job,” Foster said. “Most of the work will occur at night.” That means bridge closure between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
“That shows how valuable the bid process is,” remarked Thornton.
Freeholders approved the acquisition of a half acre tract of land at 619 Route 9 North, Court House from Steven and Dawn Oliver for $228,300 under the Open Space, Recreation, Farmland and Historic Preservation Trust Fund.
