CREST HAVEN – Carol Heenan of Ocean City was reappointed to the Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority by freeholders Jan. 9. Her new term will expire Feb. 1, 2023.
At the same meeting, the board approved the appointment of Jeffrey R. Lindsay as acting county counsel. His appointment date was effective Jan. 12. That was the date when former County Counsel James B. Arsenault took his oath in Trenton to become a judge in the Workers’ Compensation Court, a part of the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
Freeholder Director Gerald Thornton, Lindsay’s stepfather, abstained from the vote as that would have been a conflict of interest.
In other actions the board:
* Set the 2018 County Library tax at .00033 of a mil per dollar. That amounts to 3.3 cents per $100 of assessed value, according to Raymond Brown, the County Tax Board Administrator.
* Reappointed Neil Byrne to the Cape May County Park Advisory Board. The Sea Isle City resident will remain on the board until Dec. 31, 2022.
* Reorganized various divisions and departments in the county government. Established a Division of Community and Behavioral Health Services and a Division of Veterans Services in the Department of Human Services.
As part of the above, the Department of Information and Technology is the new name of the former Management Information Services “to better reflect its focus and mission on support of county government,” according to the resolution.
Along similar lines, the Department of Law is the name of the former Office of County Counsel which remains under the guidance of the County Counsel.
All employees in those divisions and departments remain in those positions.
