Gov. Nominates Wowkanech to Pilot Commission

By Herald Staff

TRENTON — On May 14, Gov. Jon S. Corzine nominated Charles Wowkanech, of Ocean City, for reappointment to the state Maritime Pilot and Docking Pilot Commission, which ensures that the pilots who guide ships into New York/New Jersey harbor are well-educated and well-trained and demonstrate high levels of professionalism.
The goals of the six-member Commission are to ensure port security and safety and economic development.
The Commission evaluates the background of the pilots and apprentices, oversees their training, licenses them and, in the event of a problem, disciplines them. To do this, it provides business forms, holds regular meetings and publishes periodicals.
