Freeholders Recognize Employee for Going Above and Beyond

By Press Release

COURT HOUSE – Freeholder Will Morey and the Board of Chosen Freeholders recognized Cape May County Public Works employee Mark Wielechowski for going above and beyond on a daily basis at their meeting on Oct. 8, 2013. The Freeholders thanked Wielechowski who was named the 2013 Vehicle Maintenance Employee of the Year by the New Jersey Council on Special Transportation (NJ COST). Wielechowski, a mechanic from the Public Works Department, is responsible for the maintenance of all Cape May County Fare Free Vehicles. Wielechowski was presented the award by Michael Viera, President of NJ COST at their Expo on September 20th at the PNC Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey.
The New Jersey Council on Special Transportation is a statewide advocacy association that for over 32 years has provided information and support for community-based transit services. Wielechowski received the award for not only his job performance but for his work ethic as well. Freeholder Morey said, “Mark comes to work early most days and leaves after normal working hours. Additionally, he goes out of his way to make sure that all of the buses are up and running as soon as possible. We are proud that he was recognized on the state level for his efforts.”
Wielechowski oversees all of the mechanic operations. He is responsible for the daily work for the three mechanics, ordering and tracking parts, completing all paperwork, road calls, scheduling buses to keep them moving through the shop and back on the road in a timely manner as well as decommissioning vehicles for sale. Plus, Wielechowski handles all of the major engine jobs, in addition to normal routine maintenance. Also, if he knows that Fare Free Transportation does not have enough buses for the next day he stays on his own time to complete the job and get the buses ready for the morning. Wielechowski not only maintains the buses but he also cares about the riders and the disappointment they would feel if they do not have a bus to pick them up.
