CREST HAVEN – It’s that time of year when thoughts cross the Atlantic to Ireland, only instead of visiting the Emerald Isle it’s festival time.
Freeholders granted permission, with Vice Director Leonard Desiderio, who is also Sea Isle City mayor abstaining from the vote, to allow the city to close a part of John F. Kennedy Boulevard (CR 625) for the annual Irish Festival, Sept. 20-21.
That request is to close the north side between Landis Avenue and Central Avenue from 7 a.m. Sept. 20 to 8 p.m. Sept. 21. City police sent a letter indicating they are aware of the event and have given consent to the temporary closure.
In other actions the board:
* Approved county acceptance of $63,095 from the state Department of Law and Public Safety Law Enforcement Officers Training and Equipment Fund to improve the firearms ranges, maintain the current fitness center, possibly create an emergency vehicle operations course, and provide for trainee and alternate route drug testing.
* Announced plans for the 13th annual Patriot Day (Sept. 11) celebration in front of the Administration Building at 5 p.m. The public is invited to attend the commemoriation of the day when over 3,000 innocent victims lost their lives when terrorists hijacked jetliners and crashed them into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and into a field in Shanksville, Pa.
* Authorized a change order in amount of $65,540 to Mozad Group LLC, dba Altriade for Phase II, physical security upgrades for the county for design and support services.
* Awarded to Bimbo Foods Inc. of Harrisburg, Pa., contract to provide bread and related baked goods to Crest Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Bid was for a year with two additional one-year options.
* Entered a professional services agreement, until Dec. 31, 2014 for $2,500 with James Gregory Neill to obtain surplus property for the Department of Emergency Management through the U.S. Department of Defense.
* Amended budget in amount of $121,025 from state and federal sources for public health preparedness social services to support mold remediation education for those affected by Superstorm Sandy.
* Accepted from Lower Township donation of a Community Emergency Response Team trailer for the Office of Emergency Management.
Sea Isle City – I miss the Nativity scene they used to display outside the historic St. Joseph’s church on Landis Avenue! It was a true reminder of the reason for the season!
