CREST HAVEN – The prisoners’ dreams finally came true. The bars have been lifted, as have the cells, the walls and the roof of the former Cape May County Correctional Center.
The facility that once housed inmates awaiting trial or serving sentences on Crest Haven Road has been leveled by a demolition crew. Their principal job is sorting through the piles of debris separating steel and other potentially recyclable material.
The site, once cleared, will be paved and become the parking lot for the new Cape May County Correctional Facility adjacent to the former jail.
