EMS Appointments Quizzed

By Camille Sailer

SEA ISLE CITY – During public comment at the June 9 virtual Sea Isle City Council meeting, resident Ann Organ asked why city administration was asking for two appointments of emergency medical services (EMS) employees, one for EMS management coordinator and the other for the deputy position, when “the police department could easily be doing this job.”
Business Administrator George Savastano answered, “There are no savings since we have to pay these hires anyway, even if they were in the police department or elsewhere. The people identified are well-qualified and experienced, with many years of EMS service. There is no reason to change course midstream and to emphasize no costs would be saved at all by what you are suggesting.”
Council approved the resolution associated with the personnel action.
