STONE HARBOR – Stone Harbor Borough Council adopted two ordinances May 7 that were debated for weeks.
In an ordinance regulating the use of drones within the municipality, the borough had to retreat from an earlier attempt to ban recreational use of drones. The ordinance was adopted “to protect the public from the hazards associated with the operation of unmanned aircraft.”
The ordinance sets out eight categories of drone operation that are restricted and where violations can result in municipal fines. These range from careless or reckless operation, use of drones in invasion of individual privacy, interference with first responders, to use for purposes of harassment, to molesting wildlife and to use a drone that carries a weapon of any kind.
In the second ordinance, the borough set out regulations for the operating of vehicles on flooded roadways to eliminate damage caused by waves or wakes that carry beyond the curb line.
