The following is a release from Middle Township Committeeman Timothy Donohue:
COURT HOUSE – Middle Township Committeeman Tim Donohue called for the Township to begin talks to extend the contract of Township Business Administrator Constance Mahon.  Mahon joined the Township in April of 2013.  Her current contract is set to expire in early 2017. Mahon has overseen four consecutive years of zero tax increases, while the Township worked to restructure departments, deal with the Garden State Parkway project, create a more well defined leadership structure, increase the size of the police force, upgrade the municipalities infrastructure and bring best practices to the Township’s Finance Office.
“Connie Mahon is huge asset to this community” Donohue said. “She possesses a comprehensive understanding of how municipal government works and the how to overcome the challenges we face in this era of limited resources. She has assembled a great leadership team in Town Hall. She has a great working relationship with Chief Leusner and all our department heads. She is well known and respected throughout South Jersey as a leader on issues ranging from the environment, to open space, to health care reform, municipal budgets, infrastructure project management and beach restoration. She is a staunch advocate for our taxpayers on the many important boards and commissions where she represents the Township’s interests.”
Donohue said that Mahon’s hiring was made after a comprehensive job search and interview process that included input from key employees. He said that in field of several qualified candidates, the interview committee unanimously selected Mahon.
“She was simply the most outstanding candidate for the job,”  Donohue said. “I was immediately impresses by her intelligence, experience and calmness under pressure. She has an empathetic, welcoming spirit combined with the integrity and toughness that a strong leader needs.”
Donohue said politics was not a part of the process when Mahon was hired and should not play a role in whether her contract is extended.
“I have never asked Connie Mahon her political affiliation.  To this day I’m not aware of it,” Donohue said. “She was hired because she was the best candidate, period. She had many options at the time. She came to Middle because she saw that we were trying do things differently here and she was excited to be a part of that.  She has earned the respect of Democrats, Republicans and Independents alike because she has always put what’s best for our residents first.”
Donohue said he would not be surprised to hear that other municipalities are courting the Township Administrator, aware that Mahon’s contract is coming to an end in few months.  He believes the Township should enter into negotiations now or risk losing its most important employee.
“We spent the first few years, under Connie’s leadership, steering the ship into a more positive direction here in Middle Township,” Donohue said. “We need Connie Mahon here long term to continue to build on this positive momentum. Our long term vision for a better Middle Township is innovative, comprehensive and complex.  Connie Mahon’s skills and leadership our vital if we are to make this vision a reality.”
