Dog Enforcement Stepped Up on Lower Township Beaches

By Jack Fichter

NORTH CAPE MAY — Lower Township Councilman Wayne Mazurek said Monday animal control has increased patrols along the township’s beaches including the Lincoln Boulevard Beach, featured in Philadelphia Magazine as a best bet for dogs.
Earlier in the month, residents complained dogs were running wild and their owners were not cleaning up after their pets.
Township Manager Kathy McPherson said additional leash law signs would be installed at beach entrances.
Mazurek said he believed the situation was improving.
Mayor Michael Beck said 22 warnings were issued to dog owners.
“We’ll go from education to writing tickets if we have to,” said the mayor. He said if an ordinance were introduced at this time to govern dogs on the beach, it would not take effect until autumn.
Mazurek said the majority of warnings were issued to people from out of town.
