DENNISVILLE – Dennis Township Committee approved a resolution, at its April 30 meeting, calling for Gov. Phil Murphy to ask President Donald Trump to issue a major disaster declaration under the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act.
The resolution refers to storms that the township experienced April 12.
This act authorizes the president to issue this type of declaration after “catastrophes” occur to “supplement the efforts and resources of states, local governments, families and individuals to alleviate the damage, loss, hardship or suffering” caused. According to the resolution, the economic and environmental impact of this “disaster could be severe and could require a significant length of time to rebuild and recover”.
Thus, per the provisions of the act, Dennis is asking though this request that the federal government provide supplemental assistance to aid in the recovery process.
