Winter is almost over, spring is on its way and with it brings many exciting changes for Dennis Township and its residents.
In addition to a significantly upgraded township cybersecurity plan, Township Committee announced that www.dennistwp.org has been upgraded to provide mobile device users a pleasant and secure web experience. Summer camp and sports team enrollment will now be offered through the secure online system and can be accessed 24 hours a day.
In addition to its updated website, Dennis Township hopes to bring convenience to dog owners obtaining licenses for their four-legged family members. A new section of the township’s website has been added to inform senior residents of Online Scams & Online Security.
Also, Township Committee is committed and will continue to pay approximately 50% of the bill for the armed security guards serving the Dennis Township School District, making safety while learning a priority.
In 2019, Dennis Township was awarded over $1.7 million in grant funding. Dennis Township continues to be very successful in securing grants, and we will continue to pursue funding opportunities to offset the cost of township projects.
With work currently underway, the reconstruction and renovation of Chestnut Street Park was awarded $1,020,000 by the county’s Open Space Grant Program.
Looking ahead, Dennis Township will be embarking on the first phase of the county bike path entering the township. Supporting local skill and business, a local contractor was awarded the bid. Construction is expected to begin March 15, 2020. The overwhelming majority of this project is paid for through a County Open Space Grant.
The estimated project total is $1,264,000, with $1,178,000 of the project funded by the Open Space Grant. Dennis Township will be responsible for half of the overall engineering fees, an estimated amount of $85,000. The Committee is looking forward to the hopeful return on the investment.
The township would like to introduce “Rosie’s Lunchtime Cafe,” serving delicious homemade lunches at the senior center three days a week. The lunches will provide respite, nourishment and great company for Dennis area seniors.
Mayor Matalucci said, “We’re really excited that Mrs. Essig thought of this program. I’ve never met someone with such passion for their job. She treats each and every senior as though they’re family, and always looks out for their well-being.”
Ale O’ Ween, an event filled with fun, was a success, bringing in $2,006 for Dennis Township sports programs. We look forward to Ale O’ Ween 2020 this October.
Deputy Mayor Scott Turner and Committeeman Thomas Van Artsdalen will be seeking reelection in 2020, and remind you to voice your opinion and vote. Valuable beyond measure to the above projects and more, Van Artsdalen and Turner hope to remain committed to the future of Dennis Township’s government.
This Dennis Township update was ordered and paid for by the Dennis Township Regular Republican Organization.
