DENNISVILLE – Business Manager Jessica Bishop informed Dennis Township Committee members, at their virtual June 9 meeting, that, “It is with really great disappointment that I have to announce that we are canceling summer camp. With the new guidelines that were just issued from the state this morning, we could simply not offer a viable summer camp.
“The guidelines are much stricter than we anticipated and include: groups can be no larger than 10 people, including children, as well as counselors; no intermingling of groups throughout camp; daily health screenings; masks for everyone inside and outside; isolation spaces; no contact sports; no field trips; nothing communal and a host of other rules,” explained Bishop.
Committee members noted how hard they, the township, and the mayor tried to organize camp for summer. “We will be providing all Dennis families with supplies and recommendations for activities they can do together. We also hope that we will be able to organize baseball and basketball leagues for late summer, and we are allowing 13-year-olds who would have ‘aged out’ of recreational programs this year to have one more year of eligibility next summer,” added Bishop.
