COURT HOUSE – Gov. Phil Murphy announced May 29 that daycare centers and summer camps will be allowed to reopen, as of June 15. Guidelines for summer camps were released June 8.

Murphy said the departments of Health and Children and Families would be guiding health and safety standards.

In recent testimony in Trenton, representative of the daycare industry uniformly said they would need help to reopen. Citing a need for financial support, clear guidance on conditions and sufficient time to rehire and train staff, daycare operators said reopening would not be easy.

All daycare centers not exclusively serving the children of necessary workers have been closed since April 1. Childcare has become a major sticking point, as businesses begin to call workers back with schools still closed.
