Crest Weighs Motel Facilities for Dogs

Wildwood Crest Commissioner David Thompson discusses controversy Dec. 11 between a condo owners association and local motels.

By Rachel Rogish

WILDWOOD CREST – “We can’t legislate common decency,” said Commissioner David Thompson, during the Wildwood Crest Borough Commissioners’ meeting Dec. 11.
Thompson said he received a complaint regarding motels not providing facilities for dogs. According to Thompson, a condo owners association brought litigation against a motel after dogs went to the bathroom on newly installed sod. The sod was destroyed, said Thompson.
Mayor Don Cabrera said he is uncertain if the borough has the authority to “make” motels have facilities; however, dogs are not permitted on the beach during the summer. Cabrera and Thompson deferred the matter to the Zoning Board.
