WILDWOOD CREST – Wildwood Crest borough commissioners passed a resolution Aug. 7 requesting aid from state officials. In order to enforce Gov. Phil Murphy’s “Smoke-Free Air Act,” additional police presence is required.
Mayor Don Cabrera said taxpayers shoulder the costs while the state collects tax monies from tobacco sales. Hiring additional police officers is not possible.
Police Chief Joseph McGrath said better signage is needed for the designated smoking areas on the beach.
