COURT HOUSE – May 5: The Cape May County Health Department moved 19 additional individuals off quarantine, bringing the number of patients who have recovered from COVID-19 infection to 173. Every municipality in the county except two now has more confirmed cases of the virus off quarantine than active.
The two exceptions are Dennis Township and Woodbine, where outbreaks in two long-term care facilities have spiked the number of confirmed cases.
Woodbine Developmental Center also experienced two fatalities in the last 24 hours, bringing the total deaths associated with the virus in the county to 27. The two fatalities were both men aged 57 and 62.
The county reported eight new cases today, four of which were in Lower Township. There were two in Ocean City and one each in North Wildwood and Woodbine.
The county total of 27 fatalities includes 19 individuals associated with long-term care facilities and eight outside such facilities.
The report came on a day when freeholders submitted a plan to Gov. Phil Murphy to gradually reopen the county.
Today, the state reported 344 new fatalities, bringing the total number of New Jersey residents who’ve died of COVID-19 complications to 8,244.
The hospitalization for COVID-19 patients continued to decline and now stands at 5,328, a 36% decline since they peaked April 14.
