COURT HOUSE – May 19: Today, Cape May County confirmed COVID-19 cases rose by nine, bringing the total to 530. The number off quarantine edges up by three, to 257. Active cases rose by six, while the community-based number of active cases remained below 100, at 96.
Of the nine new cases, four were in Middle Township, two each were in Lower and Dennis townships, and one additional case was in Wildwood.
There was no increase in fatalities, which remain at 41 across the county, 32 of which were associated with long-term care facilities.
Gov. Phil Murphy announced 162 new fatalities, bringing the state total to 10,586. The state recorded 1,055 new cases of COVID-19 infection. In almost 11 weeks, the state case total has reached 149,013.
Murphy said the numbers were “headed in the right direction,” as he announced that car and motorcycle dealers, along with bicycle shops, could begin in-person sales. Requirements associated with this latest easing of restrictions will be contained in the governor’s executive order, which has not yet been posted to his website.
