COURT HOUSE – June 20: One day after the county reported 11 new COVID-19 cases, there were three new cases reported today, all community-based, with two in North Wildwood and one in Middle Township.
Two days ago, North Wildwood had only three active cases, and since then the number increased to 10.
The county’s totals are 708 confirmed cases since March 18, with 530 individuals now off quarantine, 117 cases still active and 61 fatalities.
Today, Gov. Phil Murphy announced 446 additional COVID-19 cases and 25 new fatalities. Total cases since the first March 4 now stand at 168,834 with 12,857 deaths.
Monday permitted activities for Stage 2 of the state reopening plan expand to include personal care service facilities. Municipal and private club pools will also be allowed to resume operation within the boundaries set forth by the state Department of Health. The restrictions include symptom screening, social distancing protocols and capacity limitations.
Using CDC national data, the NJ COVID-19 Dashboard and the Cape May County Department of Health daily reports, June 13-19 saw cases nationally rise by 7.36%. New Jersey continued its decline in the rate of growth in total cases, rising by 1.14%.
Cape May County for the same period showed an increase in its case total of 4.91%, but the growth in the off quarantine number also rose by 20.18%. The higher rate of increase for the county in cases count when compared to the state is partially an artifact of the fact that percentages can move more rapidly with smaller overall numbers. It also is a caution to continue with appropriate protocols when situations call for them.
