COURT HOUSE – May 23: The decline in new COVID-19 cases continued, as the Cape May County Department of Health reported only six new confirmed infections. The cases brought the county’s total to 568, of which 276 are individuals now off quarantine, 220 remain active, and 47 have died.
Three of today’s new cases are in Lower Township long-term care facilities. Three towns share the other three cases, with Middle Township, North Wildwood and Wildwood having one each. The three cases outside of Lower Township are reported as community-based and unconnected to long-term care locations.
The state also reported a declining rate of increase in new cases, with 443 for the last 24 hours. Gov. Phil Murphy also reported 96 new fatalities. The state’s totals are now 153,104 cases and 11,081 deaths. Murphy menionted that several electronic test results have not yet been processed, meaning today’s increase in cases may be lower than would reflect true test results.
