COURT HOUSE – June 26: The Cape May County Department of Health reported four new COVID-19 cases involving county residents, plus an additional four cases linked to visitors.
The four county resident cases were all community-based, with two in Lower Township and one each in Ocean City and Upper Township. In Dennis Township, one long-term care patient was moved off quarantine. There were no new fatalities.
The county totals now stand at 741 cases, 565 individuals off quarantine, 113 cases still active and 63 fatalities. The four out of county individuals are not counted in the county statistics.
Today, Gov. Phil Murphy said the state experienced 524 new cases overnight, along with 44 additional fatalities. Since the first case March 4, the state has reported 170,584 cases and 13,060 confirmed COVID-19 related deaths. Yesterday, the state reported another 1,854 fatalities, which are presumed to be due to COVID-19 complications.
Murphy also announced the release of guidance for the reopening of schools across the state for the 2020-2021 school year. He said the state would provide police guidance and necessary funding to help with the reopening. Social distancing will remain a central principle as the 577 school districts reopen for in-person instruction.
The governor also said that schools would be given the flexibility needed to meet their unique circumstances.
