WILDWOOD– County firefighters conducted an elevator rescue class in Wildwood on Nov 28.
The course was an in-depth eight hour lecture and hands-on course which included the following:
Safely and effectively removing passengers from stalled elevators as well as basic elevator procedure. Safety, nomenclature, how an elevator functions, construction, elevator safety devices, equipment needed, initial response steps, lock-out/tag-out procedures, elevator doors, use of hoistway door key tools, poling, fireman service (Phase I/Phase II), and manually lowering a hydraulic elevator.
At the end of the course firefighters had to demonstrate safely removing occupants via the normal passageway and removal via the top emergency exit.
Firefighters also were taught how to remove an unconscious victim utilizing a hauling system through the top emergency exit.
