COURT HOUSE – An attempt by Cape May County government to create a brand identity for projects funded with county Open Space dollars will bring some changes, but no delay, to the Rio Grande Park development.
The county effort intends to establish attributes for county-funded projects that bring a similar look to the result, regardless of where the project is located. The branding effort establishes five “environments” for the county’s varied areas, running from a coastal environment to urban and historical environments.
The Rio Grande Park project fits in the definition of a woodland environment, which, in turn, dictates specific patterns and color schemes for benches, tables, crosswalks, banners and the like.
At a Middle Township Committee work session Jan. 22, Engineer Vincent Orlando called the effort a “win-win,” with the county likely to cover the estimated additional costs of $194,000 related to the branding elements.
The additional costs are a result of the fact that the project, unlike future ones that would fall under the branding protocols, was already under construction when the branding elements were finalized.
Orlando said he did not expect the changes to impact the expected completion date of the project. Plans call for the park to open June 1, in time for summer.
