CREST HAVEN – At the final meeting of the year, Dec. 26, freeholders approved resolutions that grant pay raises to union and non-union personnel.
The largest body of county workers that received 2.3-percent pay increases effective Jan. 1, 2019 was members of the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Council 63.
A memorandum of agreement to approve that contract, which extends from Jan. 1, 2019 to Dec. 31, 2022, was approved 4-0; Vice Director Leonard Desiderio was absent.
The AFSCME salaries, which take up 14 pages, are available on the Herald website (CapeMayCountyHerald.com) under Public Records, Government Salaries.
Similarly, non-union department heads and other personnel also received 2.3-percent increases which are also accessible at the Herald website.
At the Jan. 3 freeholder meeting, an agenda item lists for approval an agreement between the county and the Cape May County Prosecutor and Assistant Prosecutors’ Association that will continue from Jan. 1, 2019 to Dec. 31, 2022.
In other business the board:
* Approved a $24.1-million bond ordinance that will, among others, fund the purchase and renovation of the former Kmart building in Rio Grande. It will become the county Social Services building as well as house a Veterans Administration Community Outpatient Based Clinic, which will relocate from the Coast Guard Training Center, Cape May.
* Appointed Allison Hansen as acting county purchasing agent beginning Oct. 23, 2018.
* Appointed Brittany Smith as acting chief financial officer also starting Oct. 23, 2018.
* Appointed Robert Church as acting county engineer commencing Sept. 1, 2018.
* Appointed Timothy Donohue as County Road Supervisor for five years starting Dec. 26, 2018.
* Awarded a $115,000 one-year contract with two one-year options to Ford Scott & Associates LLC for auditing and financial services. The firm was the only one to supply a quote Dec. 12. The contract began Jan. 1, 2019.
* Approved change order No. 1 for $22,685 to MJJ Construction LLC for the renovation of the Superior Courthouse. The resolution states the added funds were needed for electrical outlets, conduits, raceways required for judges bench, court recorder and witness stand among other items.
* Awarded a $13.7-million contract to South State Inc. of Bridgeton for Rio Grande Avenue entrance improvements to Wildwood from the George Redding Bridge to Arctic Avenue. South State’s was deemed the lowest responsible of five bids received for the project.
* Approved a $128,500 increase in the ceiling amount for added work by WSP USA for engineering services for the repairs to Ocean Drive over Upper Thorofare in Lower Township.
* Approved a $300,000 commercial fishing revolving loan to Jersey Clam Inc. of Woodbine. The seven-year loan carries an interest rate of 2 percent. It is secured the second position on the mortgage of the F/V Jersey Pride, including all electronics, hydraulics and fishing equipment, but not limited to permits and licenses.
* Awarded a three-year agreement with CTM Group Inc, D/B/A/ The Penny Men to furnish and deliver and maintain concession equipment at the county zoo at no expense to the county. The expected revenue annually is no less than $17,500 and the agreement extends from Jan. 1, 2019 to Dec. 31, 2021.
