TRENTON — Cape May County Prosecutor Robert Taylor was supposed to go before the state Senate Judiciary Committee Monday for a reappointment hearing. That hearing, however, was postponed until tomorrow, according to published reports.
Taylor was first nominated to a five-year appointment as county prosecutor in 2004 by then Gov. James McGreevey (D). He was nominated for reappointment by lame-duck Gov. Jon S. Corzine (D) in December.
Taylor’s critics, including former U.S. attorney William Subin and Sea Isle City resident Terry Downey, have opposed Taylor’s reappointment.
Subin, who defended State Trooper Robert Higbee successfully in a high-profile vehicular homicide case last year, said that Taylor should never have brought charges against the trooper.
Downey has long criticized Taylor for his handling of murders involving women.
