CG Deploys 22 from Atlantic City to South for Hurricane Help

By Herald Staff

ATLANTIC CITY –The Coast Guard deployed 22 personnel Aug. 31 from Air Station Atlantic City to Jacksonville, Fla., in preparation for Hurricane Gustav.
Personnel from Air Station Atlantic City aboard a Coast Guard C-130 airplane from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., and a rescue helicopter crew are en route to Jacksonville.
Hurricane Gustav is expected to make landfall Monday on the north Gulf Coast.
“The reason for the deployment is to get people prestaged just outside where the hurricane would hit so that we’ll be ready to respond to rescue any individual who may have been caught in the path of the hurricane,” said Lt. Cmdr. William Makell a pilot at Air Station Atlantic City.
