CAPE MAY – The Cape May City Clerk Office is without a Deputy Clerk, which needs to be resolved soon. That was the thought of City Council April 21, when all members agreed to accelerate their review of applicants so that the newly appointed city clerk, Erin Burke, could begin interviews as soon as possible.
Burke, who served as deputy clerk for the last three years, was promoted at the beginning of April, following the departure of Patricia Harbora. That left a hole in the office staff, just as the Clerk’s Office had to begin dealing with the fallout from the COVID-19 lockdown.
In a period of virtual interaction, Burke will conduct interviews electronically. She is also running the council’s virtual meetings, which depend on videoconferencing software. Those meetings, in turn, broadcast to Facebook for public access.
