COURT HOUSE – Following Assembly Republican Leader Jon Bramnick’s press conference on the long lines at the Springfield motor vehicle agency, Cape May County legislators, Assemblymen Erik Simonsen and Antwan McClellan, (both R-1st) are confirming similar issues in the southern portion of the state.
“Two constituents have contacted our office to complain about the wait times at the Vineland agency,” stated Simonsen. “After waiting in line for hours, they were told they could not be helped because the agency was closing. We cannot have drivers waiting in crowded agencies only to be told to leave because the clock now says 4:30 p.m. At any other business, it would be totally unacceptable to treat customers the way the MVC is treating drivers.”
The drivers in Vineland went to the MVC for help with registrations and tags. An MVC spokesman blamed long lines at agencies on the Real ID license. After Oct. 1, everyone will need a Real ID or passport for domestic air travel.
“The administration needs to step up and fix long lines and wait times at these agencies, especially when they are cautioning against such gatherings due to the possible spread of the coronavirus,” stated McClellan. “Extend hours, push back deadlines, do whatever you have to do to relieve the congestion at these agencies. Drivers deserve to be treated with respect.”
